I am Melissa of Sweet Melissa Photography. I specialize in newborn and maternity portraiture in central Connecticut. I have been in business about three years now. I am also a third grade teacher, wife and mom to 2 boys (ages 4 and 9 months).
I love everything about newborn photography. But to me what makes a newborn image special is in the details. Are the hands flat and relaxed or are they clenched in a fist? Does baby looks content or unsettled? Can you see all of baby’s face, or is it sinking into the bean bag? How about the angle of the image? Are you shooting “up the nose” or at a more pleasing angle? Where is the light in relation to the baby? Are you lighting up or flat or is the lighting down and across? Those tiny little parts of a setup take time and patience but they always make the biggest difference in the final image. With a newborn you should never rush!
