We are thrilled to welcome JAC Photography as one of our featured photographers!
Tell us a little about YOU.
Hi! My name is Jody Ann and I live in Calgary, Alberta. I originally hail from the GTA in Ontario. I specialize in newborn, maternity and family photography. My husband and I have been married for 6 years, he is currently in University full time pursuing sports journalism and I’ve had fun teaching him photography tips and tricks this year when he’s out shooting for his articles. We have two gorgeous boys aged 4 and 2. They inspire me every single day! I just adore them. My goal this year is to come up with new fun ideas to photograph them and capture their personalities.
What is your background with photography?
I began my photography journey in high school but pursued my other passion, music, in College. I trained with Shania Twain’s vocal coach and performed as a singer/songwriter for a decade before deciding to take photography full time. It took me a few years to find my passion and niche in newborns and I feel truly privileged to have parents trusting me with their precious new life. I really don’t think there is any greater calling in this world than motherhood and family and I’m pretty blessed to get to capture those most special moments.
What are your FAVORITE things?
I have a lot of addictions..ahem…favorites! I love starbucks syrup creams (I don’t drink coffee) magazines (people style watch is the best!), tons and tons of makeup, lace anything, boots (I’m not sure how many pairs I own but I ask for them at every present giving situation) props, props and more props and I have to eat chocolate every single day.
What is your favorite tip for working with newborns?
When I was pregnant with my first, I came across a dvd called “the happiest baby on the block” The dr in it, swears by these “S” techniques like swaddling, shhhing and side lie…I applied them with my baby and they worked miracles so I learned quickly to apply the same techniques in my photography and I’ve been able to read pretty well now what baby needs what! I also love running my finger across baby’s eyebrows, either sideways or up and down depending on the baby…miracle worker.
Not only do they offer great shipping to Canada, they are the sweetest ladies and are so considerate and friendly!
